Bio
Matt (Massenburg Studios) has been a professional musician since the age of 16. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies, specializing in bass, in 2012. By that time, he had already become one of the top-call bassists in the San Antonio and Austin areas of Texas, playing across a wide range of genres, including jazz, latin, rock, blues, and country. In addition to his live performances, Matt regularly recorded studio sessions for various artists in these genres. He also composed and arranged original music for the groups he worked with.
Matt’s talent for composition and arrangement earned him two prestigious “Downbeat Awards” in 2011 and 2012; one for Best Original Composition with Score and another for Best Arrangement.
After relocating to Minnesota, Matt shifted his focus away from live performance due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. As things settled, he reignited his career with a new emphasis on composition and sound design for film, television, and video games.
Known for his bold, cinematic style, Matt has been compared to a “modern-day Vangelis.” His music is often characterized by grandiose, emotional textures built through intricate layering. His compositional range spans multiple genres, from fantasy, sci-fi, horror, western, Lo-Fi, and even specialized projects in ancient tribal and feudal Japanese styles. His motto: “To continually search for projects that bring stories to life through music and sound design.”
